About the Artist
Cuban Spaniard, multi-instrumentalist and composer, Anabel Gil Diaz is double time Bachelor with Magna Cum Laude from the Superior Institute of Art (Cuba) in Classical Music and Musicology (17’), from Berklee College of Music Presidential scholar in Jazz and Film and Video Games Scoring (23’), and Presidential Scholar Masters from Longy School of Music of Bard College in Jazz and Contemporary Music (25’). She is awarded with The Artists Society (AIE) grant in Madrid, Spain. She has developed professionally as a flautist, professor and producer with the Chicago Jazz Philharmonic Orchestra under the conduction of Orbert Davis, since November 2014 to date. Her work has been noticed by Jazz wise Magazine, Splash Magazine, Chicago Tribune, El Pais and El Diario. Her presentations as both classical and jazz, include performances at renowned venues in the US such as Millenium Park, Auditorium Theatre, Navy Pier Concert Hall, Amarnick-GoIdstein Concert Hall, Berklee Performance Center, Boston GBH, Groton Hill, Yale University and Harvard University. And in Europe, at the Auditorium "Paco de Lucia", the Auditorium of Alicante (ADDA), Auditorium of Torrevieja, Spanish Institute of Radio and Television, AC Jazz Recoletos, Berlin Café, National Auditorium of Madrid among others. She received Master classes from international artists such as James Galway, Maxance Larrieu, Sibel Pensel, Paquito de Rivera, Sarpay Ozcagatay, Terri Lyne Carrington, Kris Davis, Edmar Colon, Dave Santoro, Marquis Hill, Chris Bullock, Orlando Valle (Maraca), among others.
She recorded Terri-Lyne Carrington’s Grammy Award winning album (23’) "New Jazz Standards Vol. 1” and premiered her music as soloist with the Landmarks Orchestra in Boston. She records as session flautist for Harvard Composers Association (HCA) and for Berklee’s Scoring Session Program (SSP). Some of Anabel’s commissions for her original compositions includes MAAM’s Joanna Vasconcellos’s Valkyries of Mumbet, premiering her “Fallen Angels” and Brandeis University’s Day of Remembrance by Dr. Karen Frostig premiering her “Anima Terrae”. She has performed at Reno Jazz Festival (NV), Arlington Jazz Festival (MA), Momence Jazz Festival (IL), Chicago Jazz Festival (IL), Vermont Jazz Festival (VT).
